Diving in Alor with Aurora Liveaboard
After few years since my first time came to Alor, I finally came back to this awesome archipelago.
In partnership with Dune Aurora Liveaboard, I sailed from Maumere then went to Adonara, Lembata, Wetar, Komba and Alor. For some islands that I sailed, it was the first time.
I spent 11 nights and 12 days at sea on the Aurora Liveaboard diving East Nusa Tenggara. Thanks to the experienced, knowledgeable crew, I had an incredible time while I'm there!
Here’s what it’s like diving Alor with Aurora Liveaboard.
MV Aurora
For the diving excursion of a lifetime, we stayed onboard this beautiful wooden boat, which had seven cabins and two VIP cabins.
The vessel can accommodate up to 16 - 18 guests at one time.
The rooms are made with beautiful woodwork, and have a built-in AC unit.
All bathrooms offer a rain shower/hand shower combo which feels amazing after a dive!
The main deck of the MV Aurora is comprised of the wheelhouse, the dining room and lounge area and the dive deck, with a sun deck on the upper deck.
The local dive guides on Aurora boat made the experience extremely incredible.
They are experienced divers who guided a lots of dive sites in Indonesia. Such Bali, Komodo, Sulawesi, Flores, Alor, Banda Sea, Maluku and Raja Ampat.
They're knowledgeable about every dive site, currents and the local marine life, so their pre-dive briefs were super helpful.
The crew was putting safety at the top of everything.
They always ensured that procedures were followed to keep us safe on and off the boat.
They always tried to make the trip always fun at same time.
The liveaboard offered diving equipment for rent, so if you haven’t purchased your own gear, or don’t have enough room in your luggage, Aurora Liveaboard has great rental options.
As a bonus, they offered Nitrox for free to all of the Nitrox-certified divers.
I have been diving in some of the most stunning destinations around Indonesia, and Alor is always becoming my top destination.
Alor has super class diving, everything is almost in this place.
If you are looking for the big stuff and small stuff in one trip, I can say, Alor at the top list!
On this trip, I saw few big stuff that came up from the deep such Tresher Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks and also reef sharks like Whitetip and Blacktip Sharks.
Then I got spoiled by small stuff in here too, like Rhinopias, Bobtail Squid, Ghost Pipefish, Pygmy Cuttlefish and some more!
Clear water in Alor will spoil you more, current and cold water at the diving site will make you happier.
Activities
In between dives, we had the opportunity to explore the beautiful beaches and unique villages in Alor Archipelago with speedboat and/or kayak.
On a good day, also you could swim with big group of dolphins that passing by Aurora Boat in Alor.
The MV Aurora is one of the courses with the best diving.
Depending on the season, the boat takes different routes around Indonesia to get the most ideal diving and weather conditions.
You can choose between routes through Komodo National Park, Raja Ampat, Maumere, Alor and the Banda Sea.
They’re all good options, so the best pick just depends on when you want to go.
It was incredible experiences with Aurora Liveaboard! If you guys are keen to join in the future, you can contact me on holidiving@gmail.com to get another information about this boat!
